Why record a timelapse

Process videos travel. A finished piece is nice, but watching it come together — line by line, layer by layer — is what people stop to watch and share.

  • Made for social. Sped-up process clips are some of the most-watched content on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Pinterest.
  • Show your process. Prove the work is yours and give people a peek behind the curtain — great for portfolios and client trust.
  • Marketing that markets itself. Every clip that ends on your finished design is a tiny advert for your work.

Start & stop recording

There's a small video (record) button in the top toolbar, right next to Export. Prefer the menu? You'll also find Record a timelapse inside the Export menu — both do the same thing.

  1. Press record to start. The button turns red while it's recording, so you always know it's on.
  2. Just keep working. It quietly snapshots your canvas as you design — only the artwork, never your whole screen — so it's lightweight and private.
  3. Press it again to stop. ShoutCreate compiles your snapshots into a smooth, sped-up video, holding briefly on the final frame so your finished piece lands.
What you get A single .webm clip — a compact, sped-up run-through of your session, ready to download or share.

Download or get a shareable link

Once the clip is compiled, you've got two ways to use it.

  1. Download the clip. Save the .webm straight to your device to edit, post, or keep. This always works, even if links are turned off.
  2. Get a shareable link. If you're signed in, choose Get a shareable link. The clip is hosted on ShoutCreate and you get a link you can post anywhere.
  3. Share it far and wide. The link page shows your video with a Make your own — free call to action, and carries a social preview so it looks good wherever you paste it.
How long links last Shared clips are kept for 30 days by default, with sensible size limits. Your download always works regardless — so keep a copy of anything you want to hold onto.

Tips for a good timelapse

A little intention makes the clip much nicer to watch.

  1. Work at a steady pace. An even rhythm compiles into a smooth, watchable clip — no long pauses, no sudden jumps.
  2. Keep sessions reasonable. A focused session makes a tighter, snappier video than a marathon with big gaps in the middle.
  3. Build up cleanly. Since it snapshots the canvas, letting the piece grow layer by layer reads beautifully when sped up.
  4. End on the hero shot. The clip holds on your final frame — so make that last state the one you'd want people to remember.
